In an overflow, standing room only, late-comers not seated audience, to a thunderous applause, Discreet pleased SigGraph 2004 Monday night, August 9th in Los Angeles, California with the launch of version 7 of the venerable graphics authoring tool.
Not only did Discreet produce one after another heart pounding demo reel presenter showing results produced in earlier versions of 3ds max, but also, brought to the stage round after round of top world-class product demonstators showing in-detail, down-deep and dirty, hands-on FX magic making techniques (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) using the new features of Version 7. Additionally, Discreet kept a graphics artist expert busy through its 2 hour program creating a "horrible monster" right before the eyes (screen right) of the adoring 2,000+ person audience.
Stu Maschwitz, of The Orphanage, endeared the crowd early in the show with special effects shots created for Roland Emmerlich's blockbuster, "The Day After Tomorrow", and late in the show with multiple shots from the FX jaw-dropper, "Hellboy" (now in DVD release).
In a quick paced, lively multi artist show, the Discreet presenters hungered the audience to attend 12 master class sessions for Tuesday through Thursday at the Marriot Hotel; to come to the live demonstration shows at the Discreet booth on the trade show floor, (see frantic-films.jpg founder, Chris Bond, on left), (see photo, "booth-invitation.jpg"); and to move up to Version 7 upon release later this fall.
Showing the "Hellboy" special effects, Stu Maschwitz said, "We did that in 3ds Max 5.1, we're just moving to 6 now... maybe we should jump to 7." A pool mixer followed the launch presentation (see photo, pool-mixer.jpg), (see photo, mixer-guests.jpg).
